European Athletics Championships 2024
The Rome 2024 European Athletics Championships will precede the Summer Olympic Games in Paris by about a month and a half. They will therefore represent a crucial competitive test for athletes ahead of the next Olympic event.
From June 7 to 12, 2024, the best athletes from the European continent will compete at the Olympic Stadium, the Foro Italico Park and some of Rome’s most picturesque streets. It will be 50 years since the European Athletics Championships were held in Rome in 1974. And for the third time ever in Italy after the first edition in Turin 1934.
Twenty-four sports disciplines will be present at the event, from the decathlon to the march, from the high jump to the marathon up to the queen of running disciplines: the 100-meter dash.
For the first time in the history of the 2024 European Athletics Championships, the 4 x 400 mixed relay will be contested.
“The Rome 2024 Metaverse will allow us to intercept a new target audience for athletics and engage the younger generation. Thanks to this project, everyone will be able to participate in the European Athletics Championships, transcending space-time limitations.” The new digital environment built especially for Rome 2024 was unveiled at the Centrale Nuvola Lavazza in Turin during the Metaverse Festival. Organized by the National Association of Young Innovators, in collaboration with the European Parliament’s Liaison Office in Italy. “We are the only Italian sports event that has opened a space in the Metaverse,” stressed Paolo Carito. We should not talk about virtual reality because it is a real physical concept, which aims to overcome the limits of physicality itself. The Metaverse, in fact, will allow people from all over the world to experience the atmosphere of the European Athletics Championships at a distance and several months in advance of the start of the event.”
